The Ford F-650/F-750 Super Duty are medium-duty commercial trucks produced by Ford Motor Company. They were introduced by Ford in 2000, replacing the previous-generation F-600, F-700, and F-800 trucks introduced in 1980. They are made mainly for use as utilitarian trucks for towing, heavy hauling, use in construction and are intended to appeal to businesses and municipalities. They are mainly Class 6/7 trucks, but the 2011 model year F-750 has extended its reach into Class 8 with a GVWR of 37,000 lbs due to frame and chassis upgrades.
The F-650 and F-750 are manufactured in Mexico in a joint venture with Navistar International and Blue Diamond Truck Company LLC. The Ford trucks are built in a Navistar factory with an International truck frame, using Ford cabs and non-International engines (Caterpillar and Cummins diesels; Ford gasoline).
Design
The F-650 were preceded by the previous-generation F-600, F-700, and F-800 medium duty trucks introduced in 1980. These trucks are sized larger than heavy duty pickup trucks.
The current (2008–2011) version retains the dashboard and interior introduced with the current cab style in 1998 rather than the revised interior of the 2008 F250-550 Super Duty line; both Ford (with the 1967 cab's 1973 facelift and the 1980 cab's 1987 and 1991 face-lifts) and GM (with the 1988 cab's 1995 facelift) have a history of doing this. Ford has announced the 2012 model year versions will receive an updated interior to bring it in line with the current Super Duty trucks.
The aftermarket has made the F-650/F-750 into premium trucks similar to the International CXT by offering many different conversions such as four wheel drive.
Powertrain
Starting with the 2010 model year, only one diesel option was available due to Caterpillar's current absence in the OTR market. The 6.7 L Cummins B Series engine(ISB) I-6 diesel comes with 8 standard and optional ratings, and two vocational ratings. Ford has announced that for the 2012 model year there will be gasoline and compressed natural gas options available for the F-650. The 6.8 L Ford Modular engine V-10 produces 362 hp and 457 ft·lbs of torque and will be mated to Fords new 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission.
